Ancient Ruins [Pich]

"Cool"

date: November 30, 2009

Very cool ambient DnB, the beat and bass synths are excellent and they are probably the highlight of this track. It has a cool vibe that runs smoothly throughout the entire song, never breaking immersion, and the flute effect in the intro is a nice touch. The strings at 1:23 are a bit distracting because the quality of the synth is in dissonance with how good the rest of the synths sound. Otherwise this is a great track. Good luck at the contest !

Author's Response:

I thought it felt a little empty without them. But dunno. They don't fit amazingly. Anyway, thanks for the review. Glad you liked the song.

"Very good"

date: November 23, 2009

Very nice ambiental vibe, great sounding synthy background, plus the beat compliments the sounscape wonderfully. Indeed, not much variation, but there is the melody/theme/motif that works and immersive synths so I can't say there was any moment where I though the song is too long or boring. Great work, and good luck at the contest !

This is an immersive and wonderfully instrumented track. At times I felt there was somehow too much reverb in the mix, but it might just be my headphones, otherwise there is nothing wrong with it. It's a wonderfully whimsical track, with beautiful flute melodies and a great percussive ensemble. Are these synths or the real thing, 'cause I honestly can't tell. Excellent work and good luck at the contest !

Author's Response:

Hey Pop, thanks so much for the wonderful review! I may have gone slightly overboard with the "mountain" reverb :D

It's synth with some live percussion and guitar.

"A very nice surprise"

date: November 19, 2009

This is a very atmospheric song you have here. Very original sounds, well mixed together. It ends abruptly, or so I think, which normally should, but in the end, doesn't affect the quality of the song. This is really good. Great work !

November 19, 2009

Author's Response:

And you are right when you say "atmospheric" . imagine a City on fire, the Golden and red haze from destruction... End the end... It starts all over again... Try speeding this song up in VLC 2x or use a WAV program such as Audacity and make it a bit faster, say 140BPM... See what surprise you'll get. :)

Yet, there's something deliciously light-hearted about this that makes you feel cool and calm. The beat is cool, as is always required for a song like this, but the extra points go to the background electronics. They blend well and create a playful soundscape that works, though at times I felt like some of the melodic synths (pads maybe?) needed higher volume. Congratulations and good luck at the contest !

"Great Trance"

date: November 19, 2009

Not a fan of trance, I'll say it up front, but the track is good. Clearly you've put a lot of work into it, and it shows. The flow is smooth, the beat is cool, the bass and melody complement each other well, the typical trance instrumentation is put to very good use. This is good trance, and I give it full score, because I can't point out anything wrong with it. Congratulations and good luck at the contest !

Thanks a lot! Glad you liked it.

I planning to update it pretty soon to, there were somethings that I think should be altered a little (equalizing, distortion, ect). I may also change up some rhythms just a little to avoid being to generic. Its up in the air for now...

Thanx for the great review!

Brittle Nature(A Cruel Breeze)

"Groovy"

date: November 19, 2009

The 8-bit sound is not among my favourite, I must admit, but the track is great on its own terms. It's inventive, original, and boasts an interesting melody. The instruments work well with each other, overlaping and running against each other with a combination of genres that I feel push it further than it's apparent nintendo type inspiration, and yes, the riffs are awesome (I was ready to give you a 9, but as I was writing about the riffs I decided to increment the rating). It's actually more fun with each listen. Some might get turned off by the 8-bit sound (like I was at first), but they should really give it a repeat listen, and see how it sits with them after a while. Congratulations and good luck at the contest !

November 19, 2009

Author's Response:

Wow i got a favorite out of you even with the 8-bityness? Awesome! That sound was partially intended at the same time as not. I was just wanting to try my hand at some sort of electronic music mix.

Anywho I'm glad you liked it, and good luck to you as well!

"I like !"

submission: -YRX- My Roots

Cool drum'n'base track ! Very nice mixing of beat and ambiental samples. I love the dark ominous feel that permeates most of the track. It could have used a little more instrumental variation in my opinion, some more pads maybe, but it's short and punchy enough to overcome any kind of repetitivity. The beat at 1:34 is just awesome. Congratulations, and good luck at the contest !

November 19, 2009

Author's Response:

Yeah! Thanks alot for the lovley review! I didnt want to make alot of instrumental variation since i want to concentrate more on the dark ambient feel. I didnt want to distract the listener from the dark atmosphere wich i was trying to go for.

And on the side not i also love that part at 1:34. Ive been doing some seroius layering lately! Thanks to nubbin!

Anyways thanks!

Violin_Liberation [Box-Killa]

"Spot on !"

date: November 19, 2009

Reminded me a lot of the those music tracks for the old silent films. It contains lots of expressivity and imagination. At first I was a bit reluctant about the quality of the violin synth, but as the whole orchestration came into play I saw the big picture, so to speak. The themes you were aiming for are definetly there, and the song as a whole provides a refreshing and pleasing listen. Congratulations, and good luck at the contest !

The song works well without them. Some of the synths reminded me of the old Lemmings games. Good sound mixing, beat, melodic line, and I love the way you orchestrated the last 20 seconds of it. Great work !

Author's Response:

Lol thanks alot :D don't think I've ever heard of the lemmings games... I shall haz to google them >83
